I read alot of reviews of SMI and many commented on the unfreindly and impersonal staff. I was very pleasantly suprised. Everyone was helpful and cordial. They upgraded us to a Jr Suite in the Wine Country portion of the hotel. It was quiet and secluded. We had no intentions in spending much time there but the evenings were spent relaxing by the warm of the fireplace. We did a small bike tour directly from the hotel and were able to get a nice flavor for the town. It is located a little ways from downtown Sonoma but bike or car is quick. We had a great time and enjoyed the spa ammenities. My only frustration was scheduling a massage. I called two weeks in advance, as they suggested, and nothing was available so we called a local masseus who came to our room for the massge and it was half as much!

My husband and I recently stayed 4 nights at this hotel. It was truly a pleasure to stay in this beautiful, "wait on you hand and foot" hotel. The customer service was unsurpassed, from the valet parking, bellhops, front desk, etc. There was a complementary bottle of wine in our room. We had a scrumptious dinner in the Sante restaurant with top notch service. I had a "put you in a coma" spa experience that I would love to repeat. When the hair dryer in our room quit working, we called the front desk. In less than 5 minutes a brand new hair dryer, still in the box was at our door. There's always a big basket of fresh apples for guests in the lobby. We are already planning to come again next year. Would HIGHLY recommend this Fairmont.

A lovely hotel, with a nice mission-style atmosphere. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. The grounds are nicely landscaped, and the rooms are clean. I had a nice suite with a fireplace and jacuzzi (highly recommended!). My only complaint would be that the walls were paper thin. I could hear the conversation of the people in the next room as if they were standing in my own room. Also, my suite was on the ground floor. The person in the room above constantly stomped throughout the night (my room had rustic tile floors rather than carpeting, so I assume the upper floors were the same). Not recommended if you want a restful night's sleep. I did complain, and security visited, but the noise continued. Still, a nice hotel.

The grounds are beautiful. The pool, spa and lobby are all great. The rooms are small and the main building is quite old, so the room is quite stuffy. The Villagio in Yountville is much better.

Housekeeping was excellent; however, the walls were thin between the rooms, we could hear our neighbor whistling and our shower leaked when our neighbor was taking a shower. I definitely recommend going during the week as it is not so crowded (toward the end of our stay we could tell there was going to be a conference during the weekend as the hotel was more busy and parking became a little hectic). There is free parking for those that don?t feel the need to valet. Location was great as we were less than ten minutes from the first vineyards heading north. Oh, and stay away from the business center unless you want to spend a minimum of twenty dollars for five minutes of computer use - they don't have a free business center, I don't know about the quality of in-room internet as we didn't use.
